How this calculator works
We annualise your salary or hourly wage, subtract pre-tax contributions (401(k), HSA) and the 2026 federal standard deduction, apply the 2026 federal tax brackets, then add Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500) and Medicare (1.45%, plus 0.9% above $200,000). State income tax uses each state's own 2026 rules — flat rates, brackets, deductions, exemptions and credits, and the county income taxes of Maryland and Indiana, each sourced from the state's revenue department.
